In one sentence

Lap collects no personal data and has no way to send anything off your device: the app does not declare the INTERNET permission.

01 What this policy covers

This policy covers the Lap Android app (package name lap.shynome.com) and this website, and explains what happens to information when you use them.

Lap is a countdown timer that runs entirely on your device. There is no account, no server component, and no channel through which the app could transmit data.

02 What we collect

Nothing.

  • No name, email address, phone number or account of any kind
  • No location, contacts, photos, microphone or files
  • No advertising identifier
  • No usage analytics, crash reports, diagnostics or A/B assignments
  • No cookies, local storage or tracking scripts on this website

03 Information stored on your device

Lap writes your timer settings to its private app storage so they survive a restart:

  • The list of presets, in minutes
  • The preset you last selected
  • The start time and length of the current lap
  • Whether the timer is paused, and the time remaining at that moment

These values are held in Android SharedPreferences inside the app’s sandbox, which other apps cannot read. They never leave the device, and they are removed when you uninstall Lap or clear its storage.

04 Android system backup

Lap allows Android’s built-in backup (allowBackup=true). If you have system backup enabled on your device, those settings may be included in the backup that Google keeps for your own account.

That backup is controlled by you and your Google account settings. We have no access to it and receive no copy. You can disable app backup in your device settings at any time.

05 Permissions and why they are needed

Lap requests notification permission only when you first start a timer, not when you launch the app. If you deny it, the timer controls cannot be shown; nothing else changes.

PermissionPurpose
POST_NOTIFICATIONSShows the media-style timer card in the notification shade and on the lock screen
SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM · USE_EXACT_ALARMFires the alarm at the exact minute the lap ends
VIBRATEVibrates when a lap ends
WAKE_LOCKWakes the screen while the alarm rings
FOREGROUND_SERVICE · FOREGROUND_SERVICE_SPECIAL_USEKeeps the ringing service alive for the few minutes the alarm sounds

06 Network access and third parties

Lap does not declare the INTERNET permission. Without it, Android blocks every network access, so the app cannot send data anywhere even in the event of a bug.

Lap bundles no third-party SDKs: no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting, no attribution libraries.

This website is plain static files. It sets no cookies, loads no external fonts or scripts, and runs no analytics.

07 Sharing and selling

We do not share, sell, rent or trade information, because no information is collected.

08 Children

Lap is not directed at children under 13, and it collects no personal information from anyone, whatever their age.

09 Deleting your data

Uninstall Lap, or open Android Settings → Apps → Lap → Storage and choose “Clear storage”. Either action removes every value the app saved.

There is nothing stored anywhere else, so there is no deletion request to file and no waiting period.

10 Changes to this policy

If a future version of Lap changes how it handles data — for example by adding an optional sync feature — this page will be updated before that version ships, and the dates at the top will change.
